a letter from my shadow
by ani
I move with you,
and yet I don’t
I dance with you,
but are those my hips?
are you you?
are you me?
no… am I you?
or am I me?
wait-
i’m confused
please help me.
I walk with you
in broad daylight
sometimes stretched tall,
sometimes curled small.
People step over me,
or do they step over you?
I can’t tell-
I don’t understand
Am I me?
or am I you?
I only know we’re together,
I know where I belong-
on the ground,
tethered to your feet;
a soft black hue.
But wait-
most importantly…
who are YOU?

What a great frame in which the thoughts of one's shadow can be perceived
