absence
losing a loved one
The chair still waits where you would sit,
Your laughter echoes low.
I reach for you in silent nights,
But dreams are all I know.
Your sweater clings to fading scent,
A ghost in cotton thread.
I fold the sleeves like holding hands—
A hug from one long fled.
The world moves on in noisy streams,
But I am stuck in rain.
The sun feels colder on my skin,
Each joy now brushed with pain.
I say your name when no one hears,
A prayer beneath my breath.
You’re stitched into my every thought,
Yet distant as your death.
I never learned to say goodbye
When parting wasn’t planned.
Grief speaks in silence loud and sharp—
I hope you understand.
